Selling on Etsy from Australia (2026): Fees, Payments, Tax Basics
Short answer: Australia is on Etsy's Etsy Payments fee table. On top of the 6.5% transaction fee and the US$0.20 listing fee, a seller whose bank account is in Australia pays 3% + 0.25 AUD on domestic orders, 4% + 0.25 AUD on other international orders.
Etsy fees for sellers in Australia
- Listing fee: US$0.20 per listing, each time it is created or renewed (listings last four months or until sold).
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus shipping and gift wrap you charge.
- Payment processing: 3% + 0.25 AUD on domestic orders, 4% + 0.25 AUD on other international orders, charged on the total sale price including shipping and any sales tax. Etsy says processing fees are subject to VAT where required.
- Currency: With an Australian bank account you are paid in Australian dollars. Domestic orders are charged 3% + A$0.25 and international orders 4% + A$0.25. The listing fee is charged as US$0.20 and converted.
Offsite Ads
If a buyer clicks one of Etsy's off-site ads and buys within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order while your shop has always made under US$10,000 in any 365-day period (you may opt out), or 12% once you pass US$10,000 (opting out is no longer possible). The fee on a single order is capped at US$100, and revenue in other currencies is converted to USD to test the threshold. More in Offsite Ads explained.
Worked example in AUD
An item at A$25.00 plus A$5.00 shipping, no buyer taxes: order total A$30.00.
| Fee | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × A$30.00 | A$1.95 |
| Payment processing (domestic rate) | 3% × A$30.00 + A$0.25 | A$1.15 |
| Total (excluding the US$0.20 listing fee) | A$3.10 (about 10.3% of the order) | |
| If the order came from an Offsite Ad (15%) | + 15% × A$30.00 | + A$4.50 → A$7.60 (about 25.3%) |
On an international order the processing fee becomes A$1.45, so the total (before listing fee) is A$3.40.
Arithmetic illustration only. Offsite Ads is applied to the full order total as an approximation; check your own statements.
Tax and registration pointers (not tax advice)
We are not accountants. These pointers come from official government pages linked below; rules change and depend on your situation, so confirm with a qualified adviser.
- You need an ABN before registering for GST, and Etsy income is assessable income on your tax return if you are carrying on a business.
- GST: the ATO says you must register when your GST turnover (gross business income, not profit) is A$75,000 or more, current or projected over 12 months, and within 21 days of reaching it. Below that, registration is optional.
